Overview

Unparked is built on a simple principle: your location data is yours. We collect the minimum information required to make the app work, we don't sell it, and we don't track you between sessions.

This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how.


Who We Are

What We Collect

Location Data

Unparked captures your device's GPS coordinates only when you explicitly tap the "I'm parked" button. We do not run background location tracking. We do not collect your location at any other time.

Your parked location is stored to:

  • Save your parking spot for retrieval
  • Resolve the nearest street segment and cleaning schedule for your block
  • Generate reminders tied to that location

When you tap "I'm unparked," your location data is deleted from our servers.

Account Information

Creating an account is optional. If you create one, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (hashed — we never store plaintext passwords)
  • Sign-in provider if you use Apple Sign In or Google Sign In

If you use the app without an account, we assign your device an anonymous identifier to manage your data. No name, email, or personal information is required.

Household Data

If you join or create a household, your display name and vehicle information are visible to other members of that household. No household data is shared outside your household group.

Push Notification Tokens

We store your device's push notification token (provided by Apple or Google) to send you street cleaning reminders. This token is associated with your account or anonymous device record. We do not use it for marketing or advertising.

Usage Data

We collect basic, non-identifying usage data to keep the app running — things like crash reports and error logs. This data does not include your location or personal information.


What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not track your location in the background
  • We do not collect location data between parking sessions
  • We do not build a history of where you have parked over time beyond what is necessary for the current session
  • We do not collect contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
  • We do not serve ads and do not collect data for advertising purposes

Third-Party Services

Unparked uses the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data passed to them.

Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google)

Used to deliver push notifications to your device. Your device token is sent to FCM to route reminders. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy

RevenueCat

Used to manage in-app subscriptions and purchases. RevenueCat receives your App Store or Play Store transaction data to validate your subscription status. Your payment information is handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your card or billing details. RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy

Apple Sign In / Google Sign In

If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only the information you authorize — typically your email address and a unique identifier from the provider. We do not receive your password. Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/privacy. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy

Mapbox

Used to render maps within the app. Mapbox may receive your approximate location when maps are displayed in order to serve map tiles. Mapbox's privacy policy: mapbox.com/legal/privacy


How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect only to operate Unparked:

  • To save your parked location and provide walking directions back
  • To resolve the correct street cleaning schedule for your block and side of the street
  • To send you reminders before street cleaning
  • To manage your household and vehicle settings
  • To validate your subscription status
  • To diagnose crashes and fix bugs

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data to build profiles for third-party targeting.


Data Retention

  • Parked location: Deleted when you tap "I'm unparked"
  • Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request
  • Anonymous device records: Retained for 12 months of inactivity, then deleted
  • Notification jobs: Automatically deleted 7 days after completion
  • Crash and error logs: Retained for 90 days

Your Rights

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

If you are a resident of California, you have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. Contact us at the email above to exercise these rights.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. Contact us to exercise these rights.


Children

Unparked is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.


Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify users via the app. Continued use of Unparked after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
